JAKIM Halal Certificate — Verification, Scope & Our Compliance

How JAKIM halal certification works in Malaysia, how to verify a supplier's certificate before contracting, and how Muhibbah F&B maintains end-to-end halal compliance across our central kitchen and managed cafeteria sites.

What is a JAKIM halal certificate?

A JAKIM halal certificate (Sijil Pengesahan Halal Malaysia) is the official recognition issued by Jabatan Kemajuan Islam Malaysia — the federal Islamic authority — confirming compliance with Malaysian halal standards for food premises, products, slaughterhouses, OEM operations, consumables, or logistics.

JAKIM is the most widely-recognised halal mark in Malaysia. State Islamic religious councils — JAIN (Selangor), JAINJ (Johor), MAIPK (Perak), MUIS-equivalent in other states — issue certificates that are mutually recognised within Malaysia and aggregated on the JAKIM e-Halal portal.

For corporate procurement — manufacturing, hospitality, government supply, education — JAKIM (or state authority) certification is the baseline. A "halal-friendly" claim without a certificate is a marketing line, not legal halal compliance.

How to verify a JAKIM halal certificate

Five steps procurement teams should run before contracting any halal vendor in Malaysia.

1

Get the certificate number

Request a scanned copy of the current JAKIM (or recognised state) halal certificate from the vendor. The certificate number is printed on the certificate body.

2

Open the JAKIM e-Halal portal

Go to e-halal.jakim.gov.my (the official portal). Use the public search.

3

Enter the certificate number

Search returns the holder name, certified scope (premise / product / OEM), validity period, and current status (valid / expired / suspended).

4

Confirm holder + scope matches

Holder name must match the vendor you are evaluating. Scope must cover the kitchen / product line you will buy from. Mismatch on either = not verified.

5

Check validity period

Certificate must be current. Expired or suspended status means halal compliance is not legally protected.

Red flags during JAKIM halal verification

If any of the below shows up during your supplier vetting, treat the certificate as unverified — not a negotiation point, a disqualifier.

Certificate holder name does not match the vendor you are contracting with
Scope on the certificate does not cover the kitchen / product line you will buy
Validity period has expired or status shows "suspended" on e-Halal portal
"Halal-friendly" or "no pork no lard" claim with no certificate produced
Photo of certificate but vendor refuses to share the certificate number for portal verification
JAKIM logo on website but no actual certificate available on request

Muhibbah F&B's Halal Compliance Framework

How we maintain halal integrity across central kitchen production and managed cafeteria sites.

JAKIM-Certified Supplier Network

All raw materials — meat, poultry, seafood, dry goods, sauces, and condiments — are sourced exclusively from suppliers holding valid JAKIM or recognised state authority halal certificates. We maintain an active database of 124+ supplier halal certificates with renewal tracking.

End-to-End Halal Process Control

Halal compliance extends beyond ingredients. Kitchen equipment, storage, preparation methods, and serving protocols all follow JAKIM halal handling guidelines. No cross-contamination between halal and non-halal at any stage of operations.

Documented Traceability

Every ingredient is traceable from supplier through receiving, storage, preparation, and service. Halal certificates and supplier audit logs are maintained on file and available for client and JAKIM-led audits at any time.

Halal-Trained Staff

All food handlers and kitchen supervisors complete halal awareness training during onboarding and refresher sessions annually. Halal SOP adherence is part of every kitchen audit and supervisor review.

Regular Halal Compliance Audits

Internal halal compliance checks run as part of our monthly food safety audits. Gaps are documented, corrected, and verified within defined timelines. We support client-led halal audits on 48 hours notice.

JAKIM Halal Certification FAQ

What is a JAKIM halal certificate?

A JAKIM halal certificate (Sijil Pengesahan Halal Malaysia) is the official recognition issued by Jabatan Kemajuan Islam Malaysia (JAKIM) — the federal Islamic authority — confirming that a food product, premise, slaughterhouse, OEM, consumable, or logistics operator complies with Malaysian halal standards (MS 1500, MS 2400 series, etc.). It is the most widely-recognised halal mark in Malaysia and is accepted by most Malaysian corporates, government agencies, and export markets.

How do I verify a JAKIM halal certificate?

Use the JAKIM e-Halal portal at e-halal.jakim.gov.my. Enter the certificate number printed on the supplier's certificate. The portal returns: holder name, certified premise/product, scheme (food premise / consumer goods / OEM / etc.), validity period, and current status (valid / expired / suspended). If the portal shows nothing or a different holder name, treat the certificate as unverified and request clarification before contracting.

JAKIM vs state halal authorities (JAIN, JAINJ, MAIPK) — which counts?

JAKIM is the federal authority. State Islamic religious councils — JAIN (Selangor), JAINJ (Johor), MAIPK (Perak), MUIS-equivalent in other states — issue certificates that are mutually recognised within Malaysia. For procurement purposes all are valid, but the e-Halal portal aggregates federal + state issuances. Always confirm the issuing body matches the certificate.

What does "halal-certified scope" mean and why does it matter?

A JAKIM certificate has a defined scope — it might cover only specific products, only a single premise, only consumer goods (not foodservice), or the full operation. A caterer that holds a JAKIM certificate for one product line is NOT halal-certified for everything they sell. Always read the scope on the certificate; do not assume a JAKIM logo on a website covers the whole business.

Is "halal-friendly" the same as JAKIM halal-certified?

No. "Halal-friendly" or "no pork no lard" is a marketing claim with no legal weight in Malaysia. Only operators holding a current JAKIM (or recognised state) certificate are legally halal. For corporate procurement — particularly in regulated sectors like manufacturing, hospitality, or government supply — only certified vendors should be shortlisted.

What halal certification does Muhibbah F&B hold?

Muhibbah F&B operates under JAKIM-aligned halal compliance across our entire central kitchen and managed cafeteria sites. Our active supplier base includes 124+ JAKIM/state-certified vendors covering meat, poultry, seafood, dry goods, sauces, condiments, and packaging. Certificate copies and supplier audit logs are available on email request to procurement teams during vendor evaluation.

How often is a JAKIM halal certificate renewed?

JAKIM food premise certificates are typically valid for 2 years and require renewal before expiry. Suspended or expired certificates lose halal status immediately. We re-verify our supplier base quarterly to catch certificate lapses before they affect production.

Need our halal compliance documentation?

Procurement teams can request our supplier halal certificate index, central kitchen certificate copies, and supplier audit logs by email. Typical response: 1 business day.
